Vision Industries, makers of the Tyrano hydrogen fuel cell plug-in hybrid electric semi truck, have been invited by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to show off their latest creation on the east steps of the Capitol building in Sacramento at 11:30 am today.
I had first talked about the Vision Tyrano hydrogen PHEV Class A heavy duty semi truck in May 2009 and how it will help clean up the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The Tyrano has twice the torque of a comparable diesel truck and operating costs are 35-percent less. Add in the zero emissions factor for the Vision Tyrano and one can see why the governor would be interested.
Three weeks back Vision Industries entered into an agreement with Los Angeles Freightliner and the Velocity Vehicle Group regarding the distribution of the Tyrano within the Southern California ports.
According to Vision CEO Martin Schuermann, “The LA Freightliner team has significant experience in the deployment of new heavy-duty OEM alternative fuel trucks. The team was responsible for the nation’s largest single deployment of natural gas trucks with the implementation of the California Cartage LNG truck project in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
“Given the exemplary record of success in implementing similar projects, as well as the direct approach of working with large fleet operators that are ready to immediately purchase and deploy zero emission plug-in electric/hydrogen fuel cell powered trucks in their operations, LA Freightliner and Vision will make an extremely strong team in competing for thousands of potential alternative fuel truck orders in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.”
The introduction of the Vision Tyrano H2 PHEV within the ports of Los Angeles provides another exciting step along the building of a nationwide hydrogen transportation system. One additional hope I have is that the Vision Cheetah H2 supercar will rollout next year as planned in the Southern California region as well.
