GM Rolling Out Hydrogen Vehicles in 2007

After last week’s announcement by BMW, General Motors this week is saying “Me, Too! Me, Too!” as GM will also be rolling out 100 hydrogen vehicles in 2007. The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell SUV will be rolled out under GM’s “Project Driveway” program in California, New York and Washington DC.

The intention of the rollout is to test the marketability of hydrogen vehicles and to make the statement that General Motors is an environmentally friendly company. Government officials and business leaders are expected to be the first recipients of the hydrogen vehicles.

The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell will rollout in the third quarter of 2007 with a fuel cell that is being manufactured to last 50,000 miles and start in cold weather. General Motors of Canada in Oshawa, Ontario has been reported as the site that will manufacture the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell SUVs. GM hasn’t decided on whether the hydrogen vehicles will be offered under a lease agreement or some other arrangement.
