China Fuel Cell Ship 3 Gorges

China’s first 500kW hydrogen fuel-powered ship, Three Gorges hydrogen ship No.1, was launched into service by the China Three Gorges Corporation.

A 500-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell-driven service ship initiated operations in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province on Monday, as per China Three Gorges Corporation. This is the initial ship of its kind in China.

No.1 of Three Gorges, a service ship, will be used for transportation, surveillance and emergency response within the Three Gorges reservoir region, and is equipped with domestically sourced hydrogen fuel cells and a lithium battery system.

This ship is an important innovation for China’s energy shipbuilding, signalling the utilization of hydrogen technology for inland vessels.

This boat is able to go up to 28 km/h and can travel a total of 200 km. It is an economical and quiet alternative to the older oil-based ships.

The China Classification Society has given its approval to the ship, according to Wang Zhen, who serves as the director of the system integration office at the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

According to Wang, the ship is the most powerful of all global official vessels when it comes to generating or storing energy.

On May 17, 2022, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation and China Yangtze Power Corporation commenced construction of the ship, which was under the management of the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

Transport that is environmentally friendly

The Chinese market for hydrogen fuel cells is anticipated to surpass 10 billion yuan (about $1.45 billion), and the country has seen a speedy increase in the production of both modified and newly constructed hydrogen-powered vessels.

In order to reach its goal of carbon peaking by 2030 and being carbon neutral by 2050, the nation has set out a variety of regulations and guidelines to boost the ship industry, driven by renewable energy, as part of its green endeavor.

In 2019, Chinese shipbuilders put a lot of effort into the advancement of smart and environmentally friendly technologies, providing innovative solutions to the international market.

Xinhua has reported that Nantong Cosco Khi Ship Engineering Co., Ltd has created and produced the world’s biggest container vessel with a freight capacity of 24,188 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), and it has about 10 orders pending.

When the dual-fuel methanol-powered container ships, developed by the company, were released, they stirred up the market and advanced China’s proficiency in constructing mid-to-high-end vessels.

In March of last year, Yangtze River Three Gorges No.1, the largest electric cruise ship in the world, took its inaugural journey and began to be utilized for commercial purposes in April.

The number of people suffering from a lack of access to clean drinking water is on the rise. This situation is becoming increasingly problematic, as many individuals are being left without the means to stay hydrated. It is no longer simply a matter of access to potable water; it has become an issue of how to meet the basic human need for it. Consequently, it is growing more pressing to find ways to address this dire problem.
