In the South Pacific Island of Vaitea Cowan, the company Enapter aims to fight back against the climate change. Their hydrogen technology, an electrolyzer, has recently won awards – the largely influential Earthshot Prize, no less – for its stunning progress in just three years of development.
Today, some 30-percent of our energy is created using renewable sources – the other 70-percent, though, shows how much work is still to be done. Enapter, then, wants to work on turning that 70-percent into a far smaller number. The development of the AERM Electrolyzer could be a game-changer for years to come. This turns renewable forms of energy plus water into hydrogen gas. This is developed at a rate and a cost that is far quicker, and far cheaper, than many would have ever expected possible.
This technology could be used to easily fuel every kind of vehicle that we use on a daily basis. It could even be used to power industry, and to even heat our homes. For that reason, the new AEM electrolyzer is a worthy winner of this prestigious prize and award.
More to come in the future
Of course, this is only the beginning for this piece of technology. The Earthshot Prize will play a key role in making sure that this wonderful idea can continue to grow, thrive, and improve as it should be. Scaling mass production at affordable cost has always been a challenge. This award, though, will play a key role in ensuring that mass production can begin.
The aim is for more investment in development, in research, and in refinement of the capabilities provided by this product. The goals for Enapter as a company, though, are far more ambitious again. By 2050, they intend to be a world leader in hydrogen production. Indeed, the stated aim of producing some 10-percent of the world’s hydrogen is a lofty goal.
If progress can continue at the same pace that it has until now, we could be looking at something quite incredible. The early receipt of such a prestigious award is simply another example of how this wonderful electrolyzer could be a huge step forward in the renewables industry.
