Recent reports reveal that Plug Power, a US-based electric equipment manufacturing company, has joined hands with utility and government agencies of New York to establish the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Innovation Center.
This massive $125 million facility in Monroe County will be utilized to develop hydrogen fuel cell stacks as well as electrolyzers that can be further used for electric vehicles. Other than this, these advancements can also be used to generate green hydrogen out of renewable electricity.
It is important to mention that Plug Power Company is the main partner of all efforts of New York State to develop a renewable future at the state as well as national level. It is expected that the proposed innovation center will be the first point of attraction for setting up a green energy leader in New York State. The creative initiative of this company with the ongoing investment is a testament to their solid commitment to boost economic growth and enhance green jobs in the home state.
With this recent announcement, Plug Power has finally established the first most Gigafactory for Proton Exchange Membrane technology, and it will soon start the production of electrolyzers and hydrogen fuel cells. Note that the fuel cell stacks are planned to be utilized with ProGen hydrogen fuel cell engines that will be further used to power various versions of electric vehicles, including drones, on-road commercial fleet vehicles, and material handling equipment as well.
Other than this, the electrolyzers will be used for the production of green hydrogen from various renewable sources of electricity. The teams at Plug Power are working to create almost 377 new jobs within the John Street facility to support the Empire State Development. It is expected to provide almost $13 million in terms of Excelsior Tax Credits; however, the Power Authority at New York is currently providing 5.1 megawatts of low-cost ReCharge NY Power. Greater Rochester, Rochester Gas & Electric, and Monroe County are also participating actively in this project.
The CEW of Plug Power, Andy Marsh, recently stated that the teams are ready to welcome various guests to the world’s first most PEM stack and electrolyzer development center in Monroe County. Along with this major announcement, Plug Power has recently grabbed the attention of the public with its green hydrogen fuel production facility and electricity substation that is located at Western New York Science, Technology, and Advanced Manufacturing Park. This company is recognized as the first most tenant of the famous manufacturing park, and it is also providing funding to the development of a 450-megawatt substation for electricity.
In the year 2019, the company announced its plans to make a presence in New York State, and for this, they invested almost $3.7 million for the establishment of a valuable Membrane Electrode Assemblies unit which is located in Rochester’s Eastman Business Park. This facility opened doors to more than 80 new jobs in the county. With all such ongoing projects, the New York State is expected to grow in the green economy sector with several advanced manufacturing units and sustainable energy solutions.
